Islam Makhachev, a Skilful Wrestler

Islam Makhachev is a mixed martial arts (MMA) player from Russia, known for his lightweight fighters in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). Islam is known for his strength and wrestling skills. Islam Makhachev was born on September 27, 1991, in Makhachkala, Dagestan, Russia. From a very young age, Islam was interested in sports. As a child, Islam trained together with Khabib Nurmagomedov. They were trained by Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov, who was Khabib’s father and one of the best coaches in Russia. Abdulmanap taught Islam, strict discipline, good manners, and never to give up. Islam once said that Abdulmanap trained him like his own son. This training boosted his mental and physical strength. Before joining the UFC, Islam had a very successful career in Combat Sambo. In 2016, he became the World Combat Sambo Champion, which made him very popular in Russia. After that, he decided to fully focus on MMA. Islam made his UFC debut in 2015 and suffered a loss. To him, this loss was enough to teach him how to perfect his wrestling skills. Once he set himself to a self-assigned task, he won many fights. He became World Champion in 2022, when he defeated Charles Oliveira for the UFC Lightweight Championship. With this victory, Islam became the UFC Lightweight Champion.

Islam defended his belt against top fighters, especially with Alexander Volkanovski. He does not rush into fights and always waits for the right moment. His fighting style is similar to Khabib’s, but Islam is also very good at striking. Outside the cage, Islam is a very calm and humble person. He follows his religion seriously and always shows respect to his parents, coaches, and fans. Today, Islam Makhachev is considered one of the best lightweight fighters in UFC history.
