Climate Crisis

Safa Inaam G7

Human activities have adversely affected the climate since the 19th century, when Eunice Newton Foote, an American scientist, inventor, and women’s rights campaigner. She is best known for her pioneering work in climate science suggested that excess carbon dioxide could heat the planet. Today, it is clear that human behavior is the primary driver of climate change. 2023 has been recorded as the warmest year by NOAA and NASA, surpassing the previous record (2016) by 0.27°F (0.15°C). Additionally, Antarctic Sea ice coverage hit an all-time low. Human activities contributing to climate change include burning fossil fuels, deforestation, agriculture, industry, transportation, oil and gas development, and lifestyle choices.

Impacts of Climate Change Temperature Rise:

Heatwaves, melting glaciers, and increasing sea levels are all caused by global warming. One significant and tragic instance is the death of up to 550 pilgrims at the Hajj in 2024, when Makkah’s temperature reached a record 51.8 °C. Speaking about our Kashmir, climate change is characterized by recorded highs, unpredictable snowfall, and abundant rains. It is our responsibility, now that we are fully aware of the causes and consequences of climate change, to draft a plan to combat it. It would be wonderful to learn how the experts will prepare the program.
